After an exceptionally busy 4th week, October 15 presents us with the 5th week of competitions. Scholastic’s season is beginning to wind down, and for many bands this weekend will be their last competition of 2011. The three Scholastic competitions this weekend are hosted by Wyoming Park, DeWitt, and East Kentwood.
Wyoming Park
Wyoming Park hosts its annual Invitational this Saturday at 2125 Wrenwood St SW in the city of Wyoming. 10 bands will be performing, with competition starting at 11:00am with Fremont in Class C. According to Wyoming Park’s Facebook Page, Godwin Heights had signed up to perform; however, we have not seen a schedule that has them listed. The schedule that we know is available here. As Godwin Heights competes Class B in Scholastic, we are expecting that, if they are attending, they will either perform at 12:30pm, or at 12:00pm, with Wyoming Rogers and Ionia being moved back 15 minutes. Of course, this may be inaccurate, and we ask anybody affiliated with Wyoming Park or Godwin Heights to let us know if this information is true of false.
DeWitt
Just outside of the state capital, you’ll find DeWitt, Michigan. DeWitt High School, located at 13601 Panther Drive, plays host to the only Lansing area corps-style competition of the year. This year, DeWitt hosts 12 bands in competition. Class D starts with Fowler performing at 4:30pm. Ithaca represents Class C at 5:30, with Class B starting at 5:45 with a performance by Alma High School. A fifteen minute break separates Class B and A. Ortonville Brandon performs in class A at 6:15, with Class AA being kicked off by Plymouth Canton at 7:00pm. Awards will be held at 8:00pm, following DeWitt’s exhibition performance. The complete lineup is available here.
East Kentwood
East Kentwood High School hosts 18 bands this year in Kentwood, MI. The School’s address is 6320 Kalamazoo Avenue. Looking on Google, there seems to be an issue with how the address aligns with the school (while their map system is pretty good, errors still do occur). The High School is located on Auditorium Drive, which is south of 60th Street SE on Kalamazoo Avenue (at the intersection of Kalamazoo and Eastport). Another address you may use is 6170 Valley Lane Dr SE. This is the address for the Freshman Campus, but we’re uncertain if you will be able to use this entrance – it may be reserved for busses and equipment.
Competition starts at 4:00pm with Cassopolis in Class D. The East Kentwood Varsity Voices sing the National Anthem prior to Cassopolis’ performance. After Class C and a break, Wayland Union kicks off Class B competition at 6:00. Berrien Springs performs at 7:45 in Class C (we believe this is due to a scheduling conflict). Class A starts at 8:00, led by Portage Northern. Awards are at 9:30pm, and the full lineup can be found here.
