Contest Preview: Wayne Memorial

While Rockford kicks off the Scholastic Competition in West Michigan this year, Wayne Memorial is also hosting their Marching Band Invitational out East on September 17. However, unlike Rockford’s competition, which is scored, Wayne Memorial presents what we are going to call “Scholastic Field Day.” Similar to MCBA’s Field Day, bands are allotted a period of time (here, 45 minutes), to perform, receive critique, and clinic with judges. In the words of Matt Diroff, Director of Instrumental Music at Wayne Memorial:

“[it] is a way for bands that participate in Scholastic competitions to have an early season ‘tune up’ with some constructive comments/criticism.”

Clinics start at 11:00AM with Waterford Kettering. The public is welcomed and invited to attend and watch the day’s events.
