Spectacular Spectacular

Spectacular, Spectacular / no words in the vernacular / can describe this great event / You’ll be dumb with wonderment

Gibraltar Carlson hosts seven bands at Spectacular Spectacular this Saturday at their stadium located at 30550 West Jefferson in Gibraltar. Tickets are $6 for Adults, and $4 for Students and Seniors.

And on top of your fee, you’ll be involved artistically.

The National Anthem will be performed at 2:00 PM, with competition starting at 2:15 with Wayne Memorial in Class C. John Glenn kicks off Class B at 3:00. At 3:30, there will be a 15 minute break. A little birdy (Blissfield’s Facebook Page) told us that there will be a Deep Fried Oreo stand; this would be the perfect opportunity to try this delicious delicacy if you have never had any before. Competition resumes at 3:45 PM with Class A as Taylor Truman takes the field. Awards will be at 4:30, following Carlson’s exhibition performance.

Hopefully the day will be so exciting that the audience will stomp and cheer

[I want to let it be known that I am unaware whether Carlson intended for the competition to have any homage to the Moulin Rouge song of the same name, but I simply could not resist.]

Otsego

The Bulldogs from Otsego will be hosting 19 bands at the 27th Annual Otsego Band Invitational. The competition officially begins at 2:00 PM; we are sure the opening ceremonies will take place before this.

Wyoming Lee enters the field to lead Class D into competition at 2:00 PM, followed by Gobles and New Buffalo. At 2:45 PM, Fennville begins Class C competition. Class D and C Awards will be at 3:45 PM.

Class B begins at 4:30 with Harper Creek. Class B is the bulk of this competition, and will conclude with Awards at 6:30 PM. Otsego and Knight Time Classic often see bands doing a “double header.” This year, only two bands are taking on that feat: Newaygo and Gull Lake. Both are competing in Class B, and it will definitely be interesting to see how they will do at both sites.

Class A starts at 7:15 with Battle Creek Central, followed by Kalamazoo Central and Mattawan. Grandville performs in Class AA with their show, “Incomplete.” Otsego performs in Exhibition at 8:15, performing “Pictures of Russia.” Class A and AA Awards will be at 8:30 PM.

Otsego High is located 550 Washington Street in Otsego.

Anchor Bay and Chippewa Valley will both be performing in exhibition, with Anchor Bay at 4:45 and Chippewa Valley performing at 5:00. Awards will be at 5:15 PM.
