The Final Three: October 29, 2016

It’s hard to believe that we’re so near the completion of the 2016 marching season. To this date, we have had 32 contests (in state), where 175 Michigan bands have performed. This isn’t counting any contest out of state, or any non-MCBA or SMB invitationals, or MSBOA festival. Can you believe it?! This weekend, 55 bands compete for the opportunity to qualify for MCBA State Finals – only the top 12 bands per flight advance. Who will take to turf at Ford Field next Saturday?

Admission Prices for each of the following events is $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. These prices are set by MCBA.

Michigan Marching staff will be at the West Shore Invitational this weekend. If you are at Great Lakes or Huron Valley for any awards ceremony, please jot down scores and share them with us. We annually get the most requests for scores this weekend. If anyone can provide scores, we will be better able to provide scores to everyone.

Great Lakes Invitational

10 bands will perform at Great Lakes Invitational, hosted at the Plymouth Canton Educational Park in Canton. The event begins at 4:00 PM, with competition beginning at 4:15. Flight order is: IV, III, II, then I. Awards for all Flights will be at 7:00 PM.

MCBA culminates in State Finals, held November 5 this year. In each Flight, the top 12 scoring bands – based on averaging their highest two scores – will advance to state finals. The Championship Average Scores – the CAS – will be finalized after Saturday’s competitions. An official CAS will be released by MCBA. We have an unofficial CAS that you can peruse in the meantime.

An official State Finals competition will not be available until Sunday, after the CAS has been finalized. At State, bands perform in reverse CAS order; the 12th place band performs first, with the first place band performing last. Knowing this, and the Flight start times, we have a tentative performance schedule available. Once we know the final schedule, we will update the page.

We want to wish all bands the best of luck this weekend!

As always, it is impossible for us to be at every competition. Please take a few minutes after the show to send us scores, and if you’re feeling generous – send us Band Program information. You do not have to be affiliated with a band to send information in! If you bought a program, we’re interested in Band Name, Directors, Show Title, and Musical Selections.
