Final Outdoor Saturday [October 28, 2017]

This Saturday, October 28, 2017, concludes regular season competition. 55 bands are competing for the 48 spots to State Finals in Detroit. This Saturday will determine those 48 advancing bands.

All regular-season MCBA competitions follow the same pricing: $8 for Adults, $6 for Students and Seniors.

Huron Valley Invitational

Fourteen bands will be competing in White Lake this weekend as Lakeland hosts their annual Huron Valley Invitational. This event opens at 4:50, and competition begins at 5:00 PM. The competition will conclude with an exhibition performance by the Pride of the Peninsula – the Eastern Michigan University Marching Band. Awards for all Flights will be at 9:30PM.

Lakeland High School is located at 1630 Bogie Lake Road, White Lake, MI 48383. See the schedule here.

Great Lakes Invitational

Fourteen bands will join Plymouth-Canton in Canton this Saturday at the Great Lakes Invitational. This even opens at 2:40, with competition beginning at 3:00PM. Plymouth-Canton performs in exhibition at 7:00PM, and awards for all present Flights will be at 7:30PM.

Find the Plymouth-Canton Education Park at 8415 N. Canton Center Road, Canton, MI 48187. See the schedule here.

West Shore Invitational

Reeths-Puffer hosts their annual West Shore Invitational at Rockford High School this Saturday. This contest is the largest this weekend, with 27 bands joining Reeths-Puffer. Competition begins with Flight IV at 2:00 PM.

There are two interesting aspects about West Shore this year that we want to touch on:

  • First, as Chesaning has not paid their State fee, they are ineligible to qualify for State. All 13 Flight IV bands at West Shore are competing for the 12 Flight IV slots. This contest will give us a strong idea of who will advance (and no anxious waiting for scores to compare).
  • Secondly, Gull Lake will be competing in Flight III. Gull Lake is not eligible to qualify for State Finals (this year; we hope their attendance is indication that they are looking to join MCBA).

Awards for Flight IV will be at 5:30PM. Awards for Flights III, I, and II will be at 10:00 PM.

Rockford High School is at 4100 Kroes St NE, Rockford, MI 49341. See the schedule here.

Consistently, we get many eager requests for scores this weekend every year. If you are in attendance at any contest, please send the announced scores our way and we will work to get them added to the site as quickly as possible.

UPDATE 10/26/17 — It dawned on us that we incorrectly stated that 44 bands advance to state. 48 bands will represent the four Flights (12 bands per flight). I apologize for this mistake, especially since I knew it was 12 bands that advance; I suspect my brain likes the verbal alliteration of “forty-four”.
