On Saturday, September 22, 54 bands will be performing at one of the following three competitions: Rockford, Trenton, and Novi. These three competitions are all judged, and for most of the bands, this will be the first time a non-football crowd will get to see their show.
Rockford
Rockford seniors are performing the National Anthem at 3:10PM. The competition officially begins at 3:15 with Harbor Springs in Class D; Grand Rapids Catholic Central begins Class C competition at 3:30. Kelloggsville and Olivet round out Class C competition. In an effort to keep overcrowding to a minimum, Class D and C awards will take place at 4:15. After a short break, Class B begins with Comstock Park at 4:40PM. Class B concludes with awards at 6:25. Portage Northern takes the field in Class A competition at 6:50PM, and Class A awards will be at 8:20, following Rockford’s performance of a Frank Sullivan original composition, “Calls of the Masai Mara.”
The Staff of Michigan Marching are planning on attending Rockford’s competition. If you’re there and you see us, please feel free to say Hello.
Rockford’s High School is located at 4100 Kroes Street in Rockford.

Novi Fanfare
The Novi Fanfare plays host to 21 MCBA bands this Saturday. If you’re into percentages, that is 35% of the bands that are competing in MCBA this year. Opening Ceremonies are at 3:20PM, and the competition begins with South Lake in Flight IV at 3:30PM. Flight III begins at 4:00 with Linden, and Flight II starts at 5:15 with Lakeview. An awards ceremony for Flight IV, III, and II will take place at 6:45PM, followed by a dinner break. Competition resumes with Clarkston taking the field in Flight I at 7:45. Flight I Awards will be at 10:15PM, following Novi’s exhibition performance at 9:45.
Novi’s High School is located at 24062 Taft Road in Novi. We suspect that tickets should be around $7 for adults, and $5 for Students and Seniors.

Will you be attending one of these competitions? If you buy a program, please take some time after the competition to send us band show titles and competition scores. We, unfortunately, cannot attend every event and your submissions ensure a more complete experience and record of Michigan’s competitive marching bands.
