Plymouth-Canton represented Michigan in the two-day Indianapolis Super Regional competition of 48 bands.
In preliminary competition, they received 3rd place in Class AAAA and advanced to Finals. In finals, Plymouth-Canton finished 6th, with a score of 81.30. More details can be found at BOA’s website.
At this event, all Bands will compete in Prelimiary competition and will be judged, regardless of class, against one another. The top 14 scoring bands (again, regardless of Class), will advance into Finals (assuming this contest remains above 45 competing units). Classes are used, by tabulators only, to determine the ranking of top 3 bands per class and also to award achievements in areas of Music Performance, Visual Performance, and General Effect. These awards do not affect or determine a band’s advancement into Finals. If a Class Champion does not advance into Finals based on overall score placement, they will be invited to perform in Exhibition during finals.
In finals, the 14 competing bands will perform and be judged against each other, again regardless of class. The scores received from the judges during Finals will determine the placement and awards of these Finalist bands.
Performance order for Prelims for this event is determined first by distance, to determine day of prelim performance. Bands that travel the furthest will be placed automatically on Saturday, unless the band otherwise requests a Friday performance day. Once assigned to Friday or Saturday, performance order is randomly created, with no more than 30 bands competing in Prelims on any one day. If there are less than 45 bands at a Super Regional, the top 12 will advance into Finals. If there are more than 45 (as is the case for this regional, as of May 21, 2012), the top 14 bands will advance. If a Class Champion does not advance into Finals based on their score, they will be invited to perform in exhibition during Finals. Finals performance order is determined based upon a random draw completed at time of the bands’ prelim check-in.
